NEW YORK, NY – A man in Brooklyn was held without bail for violation of parole after he contaminated the food as a Door Dash driver meant for a New York Police Department employee.
The man, 30-year-old Lance Layne, had been on parole from a 2011 incident where he shot a police officer. He was sentenced to be on parole until 2024.
Layne was working as a Door Dash employee and was bringing a Chipotle order to the 61st precinct in Brooklyn. Layne posted a photo of the food order with the caption, “You know I’m about to violate the s–t out of this order, 61st Precinct. I dreamed of moments like this. god u been so good to me like idk how to re pay u.”
Police allegedly found a note inside the order that read, “Hope that d*k taste good bitch.”
Layne is currently being held on charges of assault on a police officer, tampering with consumer products, and criminal tampering in the 3rd degree.
When he was being led out of the precinct after his arrest, reporters asked if he put something in the officer’s food. Layne responded, “Definitely didn’t. It was a prank. They don’t got no note, no nothin.’”
When reporters asked him, “Why the 61st Precinct?” Layne responded, “Because that’s where [the order] went to. It wasn’t no target. I got nothing against him, it was a prank. They know that.”
Layne is allegedly a member of the Bloods gang. He has an extensive criminal history and the April 2011 incident, during which he assaulted and attacked a police officer, got him sentenced to 10 years in prison, of which he served three in addition to the parole. He was released from prison in 2019.
Following the incident, Layne filed a lawsuit against the city for millions of dollars, claiming that he accidentally shot himself during the fight and police beat him up before allowing him to go to the hospital for medical attention. He also alleged the officers called him racial slurs and coerced him into a confession. The city settled with him in 2012 and he was awarded $33,000.
Layne was fired from Door Dash, and a spokesperson for the company said, “This behavior is absolutely unacceptable and has no place in our community. We take the trust and respect of merchants, customers, and Dashers extremely seriously. We have deactivated the Dasher and have reached out to the customer involved.”
